Aladin [2], Aladin square
We waited on purpose more than a year after the consumer alert / recall
but:
DoA
Dead on Arrival!
03.09.2015:
- i.e.: unpacking
- checking the error message
- switching on?
- ZAP! Nil !! nada !!! GAME OVER !!!!
- Real Quality is, when the customer returns, and not the products ....
- here we have the NDL ("No Decompression Limits") table of the Aladin [2] with L0 to L5:
- L0 up to L5 are the so-called "Micro Bubble" Levels (MB-Level)
- i.e. knobs for "conservativism", running from L0 = normal to L5 = very conservative, less micro bubbles
- so L0 is roughly comparable to the original Buehlmann ZH-86 air table (ZH for Zuerich, his home town and 86 is the year of issue)
- or the wide spread Hahn Deco2000 table
- and L5 with a many a lot more stop times (pls. cf. our notorious "TEST DIVE", further down)

- (*) is slightly varying according to ambient air pressure at sea level
- size comparison, relative: 3 generations of ALADIN
- size comparison, absolute: right COCHRAN; below POSEIDON 1000 meters
- as well you get:
- a solid wrist band, which you could lock with a thick 3-fingered-glove!
- a display protection foil
- a practical transportbox: robust and not to small:
- the back side, top down:
- battery compartment
- serial no.
- CE no.
- piezo (pressure sensor)
- contacts for the SHARC (USB cable)
- and here, the SHARC himself:
- very easy to attach,
- robust, and:
- illuminated during successful connection!
- the MENU tree is designed similar to the Aladin TEC
- as well the philosophy of operating the knob (LEFT <--> RIGHT):
- the display layout: tidy and clearly laid out
- Source: Front- and Back Side of the german Quick Reference Card UWATEC / Scubapro
- our notorious TEST DIVE (depth 42 m (i.e. 138 feet), 25 min bottom time), with:
- TTS = time-to-surface (sum of all stop times + ascent time);
- here as a small table:
MB-Level first stop / time at first stop TTS
--- m / min. [min.]
***************************************************************
L0 9 2 40
L1 9 4 45
L2 12 2 50
L3 12 4 57
L4 15 3 65
L5 18 1 74
- so these new TTS are normally ca. 5 min longer as those from the
- ALADIN TEC 2 G
- i.e. the Li (i = 1 --> 5) are one step beyond the old TTS!
- as well quite nice:
- the illuminated display with the big digits!
